Town Court

All sessions of court are held in the Court Room at the Clay Town Hall, 4401 NY State Route 31, Clay, New York.

Access to the Court Clerks during normal business must be through the front doors. Court hours after 4:30 p.m., please use the back entrance and park in the lot to the east (right) side of the building.

Adjournments for criminal matters or for vehicle & traffic matters where you are represented by an attorney, must be done through your attorney.

The most updated court dates and times, if not available through your attorney, can be obtained by calling the court clerks using the appropriate extensions for each Judge (listed above).

Town of Clay court presides over misdemeanor, criminal matters, vehicle and traffic matters, and has preliminary jurisdiction of felony matters. The Courts also have jurisdiction over civil matters such as evictions, small claims up to $3,000, and State/Town Code Violations. Parties to small claims may generally appear without Attorneys. There is no limit on rental claims.

If you are a defendant in a criminal matter, but cannot afford an Attorney, the court will appoint an Attorney to represent you at arraignment. There is no right to an assigned Attorney in evictions or small claims matters.
