Reminder to Residents

FYI: Please be aware that it is against the law to snow blow or plow any amount of snow in the Town streets after the streets/roads have been cleared by the plows. This is a road hazard and safety concern for all vehicles. Thank you for your cooperation.

Yard Waste Recycling Center

Reminder: The Town of Clay offers a yard waste recycling center located on Oak Orchard Road, one mile east of the intersection of Henry Clay Blvd. The site will be open the second Saturday of each month from April - November, 8am til noon. Town of Clay residents may drop off (free of charge) yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings, shrubs, trees (including stumps), and concrete.

Please NO plastic pots or plastic packaging of any kind, including retail bags or plastic trash bags. If you bring any material in plastic, please be prepared to take it with you.

Districts 1 & 6 Brush Collection

Leaf Pick-up for Districts 1 and 6 only is held twice each year as follows: The first three (3) days in May and October. Please have your yard debris at the roadside on Sunday evening of those weeks for pick-up. Both loose and bagged leaves will be picked up by the Highway Department once during this time. Please contact the Highway Department if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation.

Mailboxes Hit by Snowplow

What happens if a mailbox is damaged from snow removal?

Please call the Highway Department at (315) 652-3800 ext.168 as soon as possible.  As a courtesy, Highway will arrange to assess the damage and attempt to repair and upright your mailbox so you can receive mail. Resident mailboxes are located in the Town's right of way. Under the New York State Highway Law 319, the Town is not legally responsible for replacing mailboxes that may have been damaged by the snow removal process. The Town is mandated to clear the roads for emergency vehicles.

The only mailboxes that will be replaced due to plow damage are standard metal mailboxes with 4x4 wooden posts.

Under no circumstances the following be repaired or replaced:

Decorative mailbox or decorative post, or any other custom mailboxes/posts 

Plastic mailboxes of any kind, including Rubbermaid green surround

Posts which are already in unstable or poor condition

A mailbox that popped off the cross support and shows no damage

Mailboxes located on County or State maintained highway

Newspaper tubes will not be reinstalled, repaired or replaced

All mailboxes damaged during the winter season must be reported to the Highway Department by March 31st of that year.
